Disney-owned streamer Hulu recently announced that they will be stepping up their game and will introduce unlimited DVR for all Hulu + Live TV subscribers at no additional cost. This move will not only bring in new subscribers to the platform, but it also delivers competition to the likes of YouTube TV and Philo.
Hulu + Live TV will provide unlimited DVR access for free to both its new and existing subscribers from April 13, 2022. This means there will no longer be a 50-hour recording limit and applies to content across all channels. So you will now be able to playback and fast-forward broadcast channels on-demand, such as ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox.
The unlimited DVR will let users store live TV recordings for up to nine months. You can also fast-forward through commercials without paying extra for an ad-free tier. Joe Earley, president of Hulu, said, "Through one single subscription, users get access to 80-plus live channels – including all the major broadcast networks – as well as Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+, and soon, Unlimited DVR. Guided by our relentless focus on delivering the consumer a high-quality user experience, we will be one of the only pay-TV providers – traditional or streaming – to offer this feature as part of the base plan at no additional cost."
Last year, Hulu added Disney Plus and ESPN Plus for its Live TV customers at an additional cost of $5 per month. A monthly subscription of Hulu + Live TV with the Disney+ and ESPN+ bundle costs $69.99. In comparison, rivals such as Google's YouTube TV costs $65 per month, and Philo costs $35 per month. However, along with exclusive Disney+ and ESPN+ content and over 80 live channels, Hulu + Live TV also offers next-day network TV shows, Hulu Originals, and an expansive library of on-demand shows and films.
