A fresh take on a decades-old genre, Overlord is a top-notch isekai anime series. The story is set in 2138, where Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is suddenly shut down! However, a player called Momonga does not log out of the servers and is transformed into a skeletal avatar and a powerful wizard.

A new world is created in-game, where the NPCs feel emotions. Momonga, who can now smell things in the new world, wants to take over and become the leader. As a result, the series's protagonist becomes an all-powerful villain of the new world in the virtual reality game.

Overlord shows us a unique story as it follows the adventures of a villainous protagonist! Once Momonga accepts his fate within the game, he wreaks havoc as an overpowered supervillain. The most interesting thing about the series is the characters, who are well-developed and engaging. Moreover, Momonga, on his quest to become a great villain, decides not to make the stupid mistakes most villains do and starts to build relationships with his followers.

As of October 2020, Overlord has three seasons and 39 episodes. In addition, it has two recap movies, one original video animation (OVA), four original net animations (ONA), and three specials. The recommended order to watch Overlord is its chronological order. Fans can skip Movies 1 and 2 since they are recaps of season 1. Moreover, the OVAs, ONAs, and Specials are not relevant to the plot, so that fans can watch those at any time!

Fans looking to watch the Overlord series can check it out on Funimation, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Tubi. Funimation, Crunchyroll, and Tubi are streaming the series for free, while Hulu requires a premium subscription.
