A classic shonen anime with fairly modern tropes, Blue Exorcist, is set in a world divided into two realms. The story begins with Satan, the ruler of the demon realm Gehenna. However, the devil wants to conquer the human realm of Assiah and is unable to do so since the only way to travel between the two worlds is by possession.
Unfortunately for Satan, he can't find a suitable vessel for possession. Adamant to achieve his goals, he sends his son to Assiah, hoping he'll become a suitable vessel in the future. The story of Blue Exorcist follows Satan's son, Rin Okumura. Rin has a bad temper like his father, but he also has no idea who his father is!
However, once he discovers his true identity and fate, he decides to change it and become an exorcist to foil his father's possession plans. The series is full of supernatural battles and battle exorcisms, which have been animated brilliantly. While the Blue Exorcist series is somewhat predictable, it keeps things entertaining for fans throughout.
