Is Paapa Essiedu cast as Severus Snape in the new Harry Potter Series?

Paapa Essiedu is being considered for the role of Severus Snape in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series as per Deadline, though no formal offer has been made yet. Sources of the outlet have confirmed that the actor, known for his breakout role in I May Destroy You, is in talks for the part, but negotiations are still unclear. 

Snape, famously portrayed by the late Alan Rickman in the film franchise, will be portrayed by a fresh face in the series. HBO has yet to finalize any casting decisions, but the series is expected to introduce a new generation of talent. 

The role of Snape, a complex and sharp-witted Potions Master at Hogwarts, is pivotal in the first season, based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Francesca Gardiner will serve as the writer and showrunner for the series while Mark Mylod will be in charge of directing. 

When and Where will the Harry Potter Series Be Released? 

The highly anticipated Harry Potter series is set to premiere in 2026 or 2027. The exact release date hasn’t been announced yet. The series is expected to air on HBO and stream on Max.
