Google announced its flagship Pixel 3 earlier this year, and one of the standout features was the call screening feature. The feature takes advantage of Google’s AI to pick up calls from suspected spam callers automatically. In addition to being able to manage spam calls easily, Pixel users will also be able to save transcriptions of phone calls by the end of this year.
Google’s voice recognition has come a long way since the early iterations of Android, and its Assistant app is able to clearly make out accents and accurately transcribe words in most parts of the world. The transcription feature can be very useful for users who want to see a live transcription of phone calls that are handled by Assistant.
Whenever Google Assistant receives a call from known spammers, users can view the conversation in real time. All transcriptions will be saved under the call log, a feature that many users have requested that is currently unavailable. The new feature will be rolling out to Pixel 1 and Pixel 2 XL owners currently with Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL owners set to receive the update by the end of the year.
If you want to access the feature right now, you can sign up for the Phone app’s beta testing program, and once you are successfully allotted into the program, you will be able to download the beta version of the app from Play Store. Once the update hits, the feature will be enabled by default and you do not need to configure your device to see the transcriptions. Whenever known spam callers or bots call your phone, Google assistant will handle the call on your behalf. It is likely that other Android devices from other manufacturers will soon adopt the feature as well.
