Google has been trying to promote its “digital wellbeing” initiative through various useful updates to its apps. Google Fit is receiving two new features that can help Google Android and Google Wear users to become more active by setting fitness goals and tracking exercise progress. The two new features “Move Minutes” and “Heart Points” have been added to the latest version of the app.
The new features coming to Google Fit have been developed with the help of the American Heart Association and the World Health Organization. The new features are significantly different from the existing activity tracking that is available on the app. It not only counts the number of steps you take per day but also adds activities like yoga or simply walking up some stairs.
You can set a goal for the number of minutes you want to be physically active using the “Move Minutes” feature, and track your progress throughout the day. “Heart Points” on the other hand encourages activities that get your heart pumping. For every minute of brisk activity, Google Fit will track elevated heartbeat and every minute will count towards your daily goal.
The new features are available on Android phones and Google Wear smartwatches. If you are an iPhone user and own a Google smartwatch, you can still pair the watch to your iPhone and use the new features. The new update is designed to help users improve their health but also allows the tech giant to track your activity. Google is also testing its new Digital Wellbeing feature for Android P smartphones, which allows you to control your screen time and be more active outside of the digital world. The feature is currently in development and will be rolled out to users in the coming weeks.
