Today on the Google's blog page, Nan Boden, Sr. Director, and Head of Global Technology Partners has announced the partnership of Google and NetApp. According to Boden, the company has received some reports from the enterprise IT leaders who are struggling to find technology partners that are able to move workloads without too much disruption.
This is the reason why the company decided to partner up with NetApp, which will provide NetApp Cloud Volumes for Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As the announcement says, this way the customers can get a fully-managed cloud-native storage device which is integrated with GCP.
The reason Google chose NetApp Cloud Volumes is that it can deliver robust management features in the cloud which will help the customers to quickly create full copies of their databases. Customers can also manage Cloud Volumes in the cloud console which will have integrated GCP billing and support.
As Boden notes, NetApp is the leader in this field and they are providing high-performance storage for scientific computing, powering EDA workflows and SaaS applications. The provided hybrid cloud capabilities are ideal for lift and shift of workloads. Shifting file services, databases, analytics, disaster recovery and DevOps models will be a lot easier with Cloud Volumes.
Boden finished the announcement letter saying that everyone at Google Cloud is excited about this new partnership because it will make it easier for enterprises to run their workloads in the cloud.
Currently, Cloud Volumes for GCP is available in private preview but the public preview will be available later this year. For those who want to learn more about this topic and sign up for the private preview, they can visit NetApp's website and follow the instructions.
