Online services including the appointment scheduling system for ID cards and passports were interrupted for a few days. The platform remained inaccessible at the time of filing the complaint.

They observed unusual behavior from IP addresses traced to Brazil, Mexico and Columbia that sent thousands of requests to their website resulting in intermittently halting services.

The DDoS attack was noted under article 232 of the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code based on the impact it makes on public services.

We will not give in to the mafias of old Ecuador,” read their translated statement. “The Civil Registry is committed to the security of the systems and the protection of citizens’ rights,” it further added.

The Civil Registry asserted that it will not allow corruption to falter public services or citizens’ trust. They affirmed that they will strive to strengthen the platform and remain transparent with the law enforcement throughout the procedure. “The New Ecuador will not bow to corrupt practices,” the statement concluded.
