Plot

The Freaky Friday sequel introduces a multigenerational twist as Anna (Lohan), who experienced a body swap with her mother Tess (Curtis) in the original film, now faces similar chaos with her own daughter and stepdaughter. The merging of two families sets the stage for a new round of body-swapping adventures. 

Anna is now a mother to 14-year-old Harper, a sharp-witted tomboy with a rebellious streak, and is about to marry British restaurateur Eric Davies, who also has a 14-year-old daughter, Lily. The two girls don't get along, adding tension to the upcoming wedding. The plot thickens when a double body swap occurs, involving both Anna and Tess switching bodies with their teenage daughters, leading to a fresh wave of misunderstandings and hilarity.

Will Pink Slip make a Return for Freakier Friday?

In the first Freaky Friday film, Lohan's character, Anna, was part of the band Pink Slip, alongside Christina Vidal (Maddie) and Haley Hudson (Peg). The band delivered some memorable 2000s hits like "Ultimate" and "Take Me Away." In a September 2023 interview with Cosmopolitan, producer Andrew Gunn hinted that the sequel might see the band reuniting. He shared that they received a promising script draft before the writers' strike, praising the writer's brilliant idea that creatively incorporates music and the band into the story.

Production Updates

Freakier Friday has officially wrapped production. Disney announced that filming kicked off on June 24, 2024, in Los Angeles. As the sequel neared its end, both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis shared reflections on social media. Lohan hinted at the final stages of filming, posting about the last Monday of production, while Curtis marked the last Friday with a heartfelt post, celebrating the conclusion of their work on the sequel.

Behind the Scenes

Nisha Ganatra is set to direct the highly anticipated Freaky Friday sequel. Best known for her work on the 2019 film Late Night starring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson, the Canadian writer-director has also contributed to popular TV shows like Welcome to Chippendales, And Just Like That..., and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. 

The original Freaky Friday was directed by Mark Waters, who later collaborated with Lindsay Lohan on Mean Girls. The sequel's script is penned by Jordan Weiss (Dollface), with Andrew Gunn, the producer of the first film, returning alongside Kristin Burr.
