With over 125 million downloads, Fortnite is nothing short of a phenomenon in the world of gaming. Epic Games’ overnight success in the battle royale genre has led to millions across the globe playing their hit game every day. However, with so many users playing on multiple platforms, the company is a lucrative target for cybercriminals for stealing personal data. Enabling 2FA prevents unauthorized logins hacking attempts, and it is highly recommended to enable the security layer for popular apps, services, and games.
Epic Games released a blog earlier today asking users to secure their accounts with Two-Factor Authentication. Fortnite players will be rewarded for enabling the security measure with the Boggiedown dance emote. Two-Factor Authentication offers an added layer of security, which requires an additional code after you enter your password when you log in on a new device.
The Fortnite authenticator codes currently support a number of authentication apps and codes via email. The security layer is non-intrusive and safe. Deleting the cookies, using a new device or not logging in for 30 days will trigger a fresh 2FA request for users.
To enable Two-Factor Authentication simply open your Epic Games settings and head to the password and security tab. At the bottom of the page, there are options either via Authenticator App or Email Authentication. Fortnite currently supports four popular authenticator apps including Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator and Authy.
Epic Games needs to be extra careful about user security as the developers are set to release Fortnite for Android users while bypassing the Google Play Store. Android is known for its third-party APK stores and downloading the game outside of the official website can lead to security risks for mobile users.
