There’s a bunch of screenshots that could be showing a glimpse from the upcoming Android 12, Google's next mobile operating system version. Because there’s no official confirmation or tangible proof that these screens are indeed showing Android 12, we would advise you to take the following with a grain of salt.

The screenshots were first published by XDA Developers, and the main things about them is a new user interface design featuring opaque light beige elements, a separate “conversations” section on the notifications area, more roundness, different placement on the clock and dates, and new “privacy indicators” at the top right corner. These are meant to help the user realize when their sensors, cameras, or microphones are active and which apps are using them.

Apart from all that, the conversation widgets remain largely unchanged, but they have been slightly tweaked in size and form to make them more useful and instantly informative for the user. Also, there’s going to be a “highlighting” function for missed calls or status changes that the user needs to be aware of.

Other new features that aren’t shown in the leaked screenshots but are rumored to come include the double tap on the back of the phone gesture, the sharing of WiFi passwords with nearby devices, improved theming, app hibernation, and app pairs (split-screen app launching).

It is possible that some of these will remain locked in the "rumor sphere" and that we’ll actually get other features that nobody expects. It’s just too early to say right now, possibly even for Google’s engineers.

Android 12 is set to land as early as the end of this month in the form of developer previews and betas. The final and stable version is scheduled for September 2021, so we still have a long way to get there.

However, we will soon get to know how Android 12 will actually look like, as well as what to expect in terms of new features. Until then, the above screenshots are all you can feast upon.
