In celebration of Family Guy's 25th anniversary, the Halloween Special will premiere on Hulu on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024.
In the Halloween episode of Family Guy, Peter and his friends set their sights on dethroning the reigning champion, Patrick McCloskey, in Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest. Determined to win, they’ll use any means necessary to outdo their competition. This storyline was shared during Family Guy’s 25th-anniversary celebration panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
The special features the Griffin family visiting a Halloween store for a gag involving Peter's antics. The episode's main plot revolves around a Pumpkin Contest, where the iconic characters face off against champion Patrick McCloskey.
Things take a dark turn when Stewie's teddy bear Rupert comes to life and appears ready to go on a rampage. Stewie’s experiments cause further chaos as he cuts off the house’s electricity and Wi-Fi, leading to everyone's dismay.
Rich Appel, the showrunner for Family Guy, shared his thoughts on Glen Powell's casting, explaining that the character is cocky, and he told Screen Rant, "Who better to play a cocky a**hole?" He added that Powell was the perfect fit for the role but hinted that we might not see much of him after the Halloween special.
Appel expressed his excitement about casting Derek Jacobi, saying, "The idea of having such a classically trained actor with a natural accent felt perfect for Stewie's partner."
After the Halloween special, Family Guy will release a Christmas-themed episode. Fans are eagerly awaiting these episodes, especially as Fox has delayed the premiere of season 23 to midseason, marking the first time since 2005 that the show won't be on its fall schedule.
Despite the delay, Fox remains committed to the series. Creator Seth MacFarlane had previously considered ending Family Guy at its peak but ultimately decided to continue the show as long as it had a dedicated audience. “I don’t see a good reason to stop. People still love it. It makes people happy,” MacFarlane shared.
Season 23 promises fresh, creative storylines. Highlights include Peter struggling to throw a ball, Meg dating the giant chicken’s son, Chris going on a "Lord of the Rings"-inspired adventure, and Stewie embarking on a mission to return his stuffed bear, Rupert, to China. Additionally, the Griffin family will parody The White Lotus during a vacation where Stewie fears his new friends may sacrifice him.
