Facebook Messenger had a number of changes last year but a feature that has been requested for a very long time is Dark Mode. Facebook had promised that they would be bringing Dark Mode to the app last year, but we finally have confirmation that it is indeed nearly ready and we can expect the feature to hit the live version of the app soon.
According to information from Jane Manchun Wong who is a prolific tipster thanks to her social app breakdown stills, we now have access to a sneak peek of the upcoming update to Messenger. The new feature is available in the “Me” section of the app, and you can toggle it on or off whenever you want.

It is unknown how many regions are eligible for the test, and you should check your Messenger app to see if you received access to the new dark mode. Users have been trying workarounds like using a VPN to trick the app into enabling dark mode with limited success. Wong had managed to enable the feature and take a few screenshots of the work-in-progress feature which she shared.
The new Messenger dark mode is quite good and on par with what you would expect. We saw quite a few apps and services receive dark mode last year and it’s great to see Facebook finally bring the long-requested feature to the app. There is no official word on when the feature will be available for all users but we can expect it to hit the app and website in the coming weeks at the very least.
