Everyone thought that Facebook has moved past sharing confidential data with companies. Well, let me surprise you that it hasn’t! According to the latest report published by the Wall Street Journal, it is believed that the social media giant made ‘corporate’ deals with numerous companies that would grant them access to confidential information about the users and friends.
According to the court documents, the company scraped off any such information from 2015 onwards. People close to the matter stated that the social media giant came up with whitelists which allowed them to gather confidential information such as ‘friend link’ metric, contact information, and more than determined the relationship of users. The year 2015 was when Facebook made a promise that it would not share any information with the developers.
The Wall Street Journal report suggested that companies like Nissan Motor Co. and RBC Capital Markets are two of the many who made deals to access Facebook users’ data after 2015. The extended access to the companies went on for about several weeks and months and there is no news if any such deal is still active or expired. Since the beginning of 2018, the company has been under a lot of pressure regarding its privacy policies.
So far, Facebook has not responded to request for comment to clarify the issue. Earlier this week, the social media giant also struck deal with other tech giants including Apple, Blackberry, Samsung, and Microsoft – and shared huge chunks of data with them.
