Episode Guide

Why is Alec Baldwin Starring in a Reality show?

Alec Baldwin chose to star in The Baldwins as a way to stay close to his family while continuing to work. In an interview with People published on Feb. 11, 2025, he explained, “We did the show because it’s in place of doing a movie or a play. Now I think to myself, ‘Am I going to be away from my kids five nights out of the week until 11 o’clock at night?’” He added, “For me, work-related things really aren’t that critical anymore. I thought, ‘I get to spend time with my family.’”

How does The Baldwins Address Alec Baldwin's Trial?

The Baldwins addresses Alec Baldwin’s trial by documenting how the family navigates the emotional challenges surrounding the Rust shooting case.

The reality series was announced five months after a New Mexico grand jury indicted Baldwin on involuntary manslaughter charges in January 2024 for the 2021 on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin pleaded not guilty, maintaining he did not pull the trigger.

The charges were dismissed in July 2024 after a judge ruled that key evidence was not turned over, and in January 2025, Baldwin filed a civil lawsuit against prosecutors and Santa Fe officials for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations.

The series does not shy away from the tragedy. In the first trailer, Hilaria Baldwin addresses it directly: “A son lost his mom in the most unthinkable tragedy. This is never something to forget and we’re trying to parent through it.” Alec Baldwin also reflects on the weight of the moment, stating, “Honestly, from the bottom of my soul, I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have you and these kids.”

Cameras captured the family’s life amid the legal battle, with the premiere episode showing Alec and Hilaria celebrating their son Rafael’s ninth birthday in June 2024 while the Rust trial continued. A TLC press release described the show’s approach, stating, “Alec and Hilaria navigate the emotional complexities of the moment, all while keeping their children’s lives as stable as possible.” (via TODAY)
