The movie will explore a new period in the Star Wars timeline with an entirely fresh cast of characters, neither as a prequel nor a sequel.
One of the most anticipated announcements was the confirmation that The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters in IMAX. This film, which originated from the popular Disney+ series, will scale up the beloved characters of Mando and Grogu for the big screen.
Director Jon Favreau, along with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, revealed that the movie will feature familiar faces from Star Wars lore, including Zeb Orrelios from Rebels and BD-1, the explorer droid from Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor.
Sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver joined Pedro Pascal on stage, sharing her excitement about being part of the Star Wars universe.
Weaver admitted that she hadn’t watched The Mandalorian before being cast but quickly fell in love with Pascal’s Mando and, of course, Grogu. She affectionately remarked, “Of course, Grogu stole my heart.” (via IGN) Weaver’s character will appear in The Mandalorian & Grogu, seen in early footage engaging with Grogu and discussing a job with Mando.
While the film's official trailer is still under wraps, a sneak peek was shown to attendees. The footage featured intense action on a snowy planet, with Mando battling Flame Troopers and AT-AT walkers collapsing in the snow. We also saw Grogu levitating objects, including a droid, and a brief interaction between Grogu and Weaver’s character, who says, “Very messy. You work for us. We need you.” The movie is slated for release in theaters on May 22, 2026.
The Lucasfilm panel opened with president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni, who were joined by iconic droids C-3P0 and R2-D2. Filoni announced that filming for Ahsoka season two will begin immediately after he returns from the Celebration, much to the excitement of fans eager to see more of Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano.
Lucasfilm announced Maul: Shadow Lord, a new animated series set to premiere in 2026. The series will delve into Darth Maul's transformation into a formidable crime lord, taking place one year after the events of The Clone Wars season seven.
Sam Witwer returns to voice Maul, with Matt Michnovetz serving as the head writer.
A new animation style was showcased during the announcement.
Fans of Young Jedi Adventures can look forward to season three, set to debut in fall 2025. The announcement was made with the help of Nubs, the beloved Pooba character, during the Celebration.
