Euphoria Season 3: Release date, cast, plot, Production Updates, & Everything we know so far

After being delayed by last year's Hollywood strikes, HBO has confirmed that Euphoria will start filming the third season in January 2025. All main cast members will be returning for the new season.

Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, said, "I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam [Levinson] and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans."

The show received critical acclaim and was nominated for 25 Emmy Awards, winning nine. Zendaya won two Emmys for Best Actress in a Drama, and Colman Domingo won for Best Guest Actor in a Drama. Additionally, Levinson won a DGA award for the season two episode titled, "Stand Still Like the Hummingbird."

Release date & Where to Watch

Since Euphoria season three is set to begin production in early 2025, we expect the installment to drop sometime in 2026. And as usual, we will be able to watch it on HBO and on Max.

Plot

Season three's details are still quite limited, but creator Sam Levinson has teased that he envisions the upcoming season to have a "film noir" vibe. Additionally, he mentioned that the focus will be on Rue and the exploration of the challenge of maintaining personal integrity in a world filled with corruption.

There are rumors that it will be set "approximately five years in the future" when all of them are out of high school.

Cast

HBO confirmed that the principal cast will return for season three. This excludes Barbie Ferreira, who exited the show in 2022. In an Instagram story, she announced that she won't be reprising her role as Kat anymore. She wrote, "After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I'm having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye. I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez."

Also, Angus Cloud, who played Fez, passed away in July 2023.

Zendaya said she is looking forward to season three, hoping it will bring some happiness and joy for Rue after a difficult second season. She said, "I would like to explore Rue's sobriety and that journey for her. We see her in the midst of it. It would be nice to see her closer to the other side."

In an interview with People, Sweeney said she is "very excited to jump back into Cassie." She said that she can't reveal much about the upcoming season, and talked about how she prepared to reprise her role. "We did have a long time between season one and season two, but especially now with the time jump, it’s a new process for me. I’m kind of just learning as I go and being open for whatever’s to come. But I’m also really excited. I love Cassie. She is always such a thrilling character to play, so I’m really looking forward to what’s gonna happen in her life."

Talking about production and delays, Domingo said, "We shoot these episodes in like a month each. It takes a while. It takes so long because there are a lot of frames. If you look at the show, there are a lot of tiny, tiny scenes. [Creator] Sam [Levinson] is very meticulous in such a gorgeous way. It's gonna be worth the wait."
