Deezer is a popular name in the music streaming market, and while it might not be as big as the likes of Spotify, it caters to millions of users. A security flaw in the service allowed developers to create the Deezloader Remix app. The app allows Deezer users access to audio files for downloads. However, Deezer is not too happy about the app being used and has filed a complaint against the developer.
This is the not the first time that a major streaming app or a music industry member has filed a complaint against a third-party app. The music streaming service has filed complaints against Deezloader, Deezloader Reborn, and Deezloader Remix. The DMCA-style complaint that was filed against Deezloader does not state what laws were breached due to the usage of the app.
Deezloader Remix is available on the NotABug code hosting platform. NotABug admin Hein-Pieter van Braam-Stewart, stated on the official repo page “I have received [an email] from Deezer, it would be helpful if someone from the project could respond to me on the details of the program. A cursory look at the sources reveals no Deezer owned materials nor any way in which the application defeats any type of encryption or any such things.”
The admin has requested Deezer to inform what laws were breached, but the music streaming platform has not even provided steps to dispute the takedown. The app was created using the platform’s API with files being available from download from the official servers.
The developer will be shutting down the Deezloader Remix project soon as he will be unable to maintain the app. Also, users will no longer receive updates, and the decision to pull the app was made long before Deezer filed its notice.
