Daredevil: Born Again has wrapped up its season 1 with a finale that’s going viral. People can’t stop talking about the ending that sets up a war between Daredevil and Kingpin. But Kingpin is the mayor of New York City and so he has the complete law enforcement in his hands. What does Daredevil have?

Well, if rumors are to be believed, then he might get the gang back together to defend his city. With The Punisher already on the scene, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), and Elektra (Élodie Yung) remain. But will they join Daredevil on his crusade?

Will Daredevil: Season 2 Feature the Defenders?

In the finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Matt clearly said that they need an army. While there are multiple heroes available in the MCU, Daredevil is a street-level hero/ vigilante and having uber powerful characters like Doctor Strange in there to solve the Kingpin issue would break the immersion.

As such, the only other options are other street level heroes. While there’s Hawkeye and his protege, Kate Bishop, as well as her bestie Yelena Belova, who can help, they are not characters who are a part of Daredevil’s world. So, the only characters who are heroes and a part of this dark and gritty MCU world are- Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

But apart from Daredevil and Punisher, we haven’t received any confirmation about the existence of these heroes in the MCU. So, will they make the jump from the now-defunct Netflix Marvelverse? In March 2025, Alex Perez revealed to MCU fans via The Cosmic Circus that these beloved characters could come back.

He also hinted that Maya Lopez, a.k.a. Echo could make an appearance as well. This could make Kingpin MCU arc come full circle. But what about Elektra? There isn’t any confirmation or rumors about whether she will appear in th next season or not.

What is the Future of The Defenders in the MCU?

At the time of writing, its not yet confirmed whether Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones will return to reprise their characters. However, many of them have expressed interest in returning. Ritter especially has been vocal about reprising her superpowered private detective character. In an interview with ScreenRant during the promotion of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, she said:

There's nothing I can really say there, but I love her (Jessica Jones). It'd be such a dream to play that character again.”

Her recent Instagram post where Charlie Cox can be seen reading her book, Retreat, could be a hint that at least out of the three Defenders, Jessica Jones could be in the upcoming season. Check the post below:

In another interview with CBS Mornings, she said:

Listen, I love Jessica Jones. I think it's so exciting that there seems to be such an appetite to see her again. I get asked about it almost every day. We remain cautiously optimistic, and I hope to get to do it… If they asked me, I would be there, ready. I may or may not have the jacket that I stole from set the first time."
