The Daredevil: Born Again season 1 finale is here, and it ties up some plot points neatly while also setting up some things coming in season 2. The first season has successfully maintained the quality of the Netflix version while simultaneously integrating itself into the MCU almost effortlessly.

Till now, we have seen Foggy’s death, Matt quitting his Daredevil persona, and later returning to save Hells Kitchen. Initially, he and Kingpin started the season on thin ice, but with a sort of understanding to not meddle in each other's business. But as the season progressed, we got to know how far Kingpin’s empire has reached.

Daredevil: Born Again episode 9 revealed more about Kingpin and Vanessa’s plans and also hinted at the other heroes who might have to help Matt Murdock defend his city. In this article, we will discuss what happened in the season 1 finale of the show.

Daredevil and Punisher Unite

Last episode, Matt took a bullet for Kingpin and we were left wondering whether he survived or not. Thankfully, he did but Kingpin’s heart wasn’t softened by this act. He instead sent Buck to take Matt out at the hospital. However, he escaped and went back to his apartment.

But it wasn't easy with the Anti-Vigilante Task Force hot on his trail. When he entered his home, he found that Frank Castle was already there. Why? All because Karen Page had requested him to, and so he had to save Matt. The two don’t see eye-to-eye regarding Matt’s decision to save Fisk but soon join forces to take out the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, who get in Matt’s home.

The intense fight showcased the abilities of each character- Punisher just shot them while Daredevil used his acrobatic fighting skills.

The Punisher Finds out who Killed Hector Ayala

During the fight, Frank realized that Sergeant Cole North had killed Hector Ayala because one of the bullets had the same Punisher symbol as the bullet used to kill the vigilante. However, before Matt and Frank could decide on what to do, they had to jump out of the apartment as a grenade rolled in.

They landed right in front of Karen Page’s car, who told them both to get in. Later, while Frank and Matt were patching up their wounds, Karen revealed that she got on a plane and called Frank when she heard that Bullseye had escaped from prison. She also thanked Frank for his help. Matt informed Karen that it was Vanessa who had ordered the hit on Foggy.

Why did Vanessa kill Foggy?

Matt and Karen get the files that Foggy was working on when he was killed. They find that their late friend was going to show that the Red Hook port could have been used to launder money legally to its properties. If he had gone through with his plans, then the Fisks would have been in trouble. This is why Vanessa had to silence him.

The Punisher Punishes the Corrupt cops

Frank confronted the cops at the Red Hook and began shooting them immediately. He was initially able to hold his own but was overpowered eventually. They tied him up but then revealed that they admired him and wanted him to join them. However, he laughed at their hypocrisy. He also calls them clowns and let them know that they will never understand his pain.

Kingpin Takes Control in Daredevil: Born Again Episode 9

The Daredevil: Born Again finale revealed that Kingpin used Bullseye’s attack to allow his Anti-Vigilante Task Force to take over the streets. They run havoc and are even shown shooting a kid who surrendered. When questioned, the cop just put a vigilante mask on the kid.

As for whether Fisk knew about Vanessa’s hit on Foggy, yes, he did, and he wanted to protect her. Both of them decided to use Red Hook to move billions, which is now easy to do since he is the mayor. Fisk tells his political advisor, Sheila Rivera, that loyalty is of the utmost importance to him.

He also tells her that she needs to report back to him about anyone who isn’t loyal. She meets the police commissioner, who wants to get Fisk removed from office with the help of the court. He asks for her support, but she betrays him by telling Fisk about him.

He is then brought before Fisk, who beats him dead his head in front of an audience of corrupt cops. Daniel and Buck also help Fisk secure the City Counsel. They don’t want to authorize his “Safer Streets Initiative” but are forced to after they get threatened. As for Heather Glenn, she accepted Kingpin’s offer to become the Commissioner of Mental Health.

Kingpin vs Daredevil

The lines have been drawn, and the city is at stake. Daredevil and Kingpin are on either side of it again. Kingpin addressed the city in Daredevil: Born Again episode 9 and lied again. He said that the commissioner may have abandoned the people when they needed him the most, but he wouldn’t. Also, he revealed that there would be a curfew from 8 pm and outlawed all vigilante activity in the city.

He and Vanessa then walked past the same area Adam was in. Surprisingly, in the same area, Hawkeye's Jack Duquesne / Swordsman and The Punisher were also trapped. However, it is heavily implied in the post-credits scene that Frank escaped. On the other hand, Matt rallied people at Josie’s for the upcoming fight against Kingpin. Cherry, Josie, and Detective Angela Kim joined his mission.

But Daredevil will need a lot more firepower for this mission. Will any defenders step up for this task?
