Danganronpa is a psychological horror anime based on Spike Chunsoft's video game Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Despite starting with just the Visual Novel games, the franchise now expanded to include anime series and light novels.
Unfortunately, even though the series is growing in popularity thanks to these new mediums, fans are not happy with the quality. A lot of aspects that made Danganronpa spectacular, i.e., its intensive character development, were either rushed or wholly overlooked in the anime. This made the show less enjoyable and more confusing.
However, this is something to be expected since Danganronpa's anime adapted over 20+ hours of gameplay into barely three seasons. This makes it so that if someone just jumps right into the anime, they'll find themselves utterly confused at a certain point. As the series adapts content from the manga, games, and light novels, collective knowledge of all three is required to properly understand what is going on.Â

Danganronpa anime is an abridged adaptation of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, the first game in the Danganronpa series.
Similar to the game, the series follows Makoto Naegi, an average high school student. After winning a nationwide lottery, he gets a chance to attend the prestigious Hope's Peak High School, a school meant for teenagers who are exceptional at their chosen fields. Especially talented students in the school are awarded a special title. They are essentially guaranteed success in their future life, while the school's graduates are fast-tracked into high-ranking careers.
However, after stepping foot onto the school grounds, it emerges that not all is as it seems. After encountering the mysterious bear Monokuma, Makoto and his friends learn that they are to be trapped in this school for the rest of their lives unless they meet his demands - they must kill another student unbeknownst to their peers.

The story of Future Arc follows Makoto Naegi, Kyoko Kirigiri, Aoi Asahina in the Final Killing Game, along with twelve other Future Foundation members. In contrast, the story of Despair Arc serves as the "prelude" to the series, as it tells the backstory of Hope's Peak Academy's Class 77-B and how they became corrupted Remnants of Despair.
Below is the correct watch order for Danganronpa 3 (Future, Despair, and Hope).
Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School - Future Arc is meant to be watched concurrently with Despair Arc. The two arcs should not be viewed separately or in the order released by Funimation. So if you watched Future episode 1, you are then supposed to watch Despair episode 1 and do that until it concludes with the Hope Arc.
