Release date & Where to Watch

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is set to premiere on Starz in Summer 2025, though the exact release date is yet to be confirmed. The series will be available on Starz platforms in both the United States and Canada and will consist of ten episodes.

What is the plot of Outlander: Blood of my Blood?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood explores two interconnected love stories across time and place. According to Starz’s description, the series “introduces viewers to two new couples who fight against all odds to be together as their love stories unfold across time. From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th century Scotland, two fated love stories must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, intersecting in surprising and unforeseen ways.”

The series will center on these parallel romances: Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, whose forbidden love unfolded in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands, and Claire Beauchamp’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, who navigate the turmoil of World War I England. Per Starz’s press release, “the narrative follows the love stories of Julia Moriston, Henry Beauchamp, Ellen MacKenzie, and Brian Fraser.”

Speaking about the prequel, the showrunner of Outlander, Matthew B. Roberts said, “Outlander: Blood of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain. The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire, and there will be several names and faces that Outlander fans will know and recognize.” (via CarterMatt)

Roberts also expressed excitement about expanding the Outlander universe. “Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with season eight, but Diana is continuing on with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on book ten. With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there is still so much more to come in the Outlander universe, and we cannot wait to continue sharing these stories with our dedicated fans.”

Who’s Starring in Outlander: Blood of my Blood?

Is There any Trailer for Outlander: Blood of my Blood?

The teaser for Outlander: Blood of My Blood opens with a poignant line from Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s father, who says, “I have decided to call you my hope,” presumably addressing Julia Moriston, Claire’s mother. This heartfelt moment sets the tone for the dual love stories at the heart of the prequel.

As the teaser unfolds, scenes flash between the chaos of World War I trench warfare and the rugged beauty of 18th-century Scotland. Julia, a war nurse, is seen hiding under a hospital bed amidst the horrors of battle, while Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser exchange longing glances through the slats of a wooden fence.

"Two love stories connected by time, loyalty, desire, passion, destiny," the teaser promises, showcasing glimpses of grand estates, wartime horror, horses, kilts, and intimate moments. The teaser ends on an emotional note, teasing the struggles and sacrifices both couples must endure as they fight against all odds to be together.

Is Sam Heughan not in the Outlander: Blood of my Blood?

In an interview with Esquire UK, Sam Heughan confirmed he wouldn’t appear in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, as Jamie Fraser isn’t part of the storyline. "All I can tell you is I’m not in it, as Jamie’s not in it," he shared, adding that the prequel focuses on Jamie’s parents when they were younger.

While Heughan joked about being too old to play a young Jamie, he hinted at the possibility of appearing in some capacity. "I could play his dad maybe, or a flash forward? It is time travel, after all," he teased, acknowledging the flexible nature of the Outlander universe.

Is Outlander: Blood of My Blood Based on a book?

Yes, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is connected to the Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon. In a June 2023 interview with TV Guide Magazine, Gabaldon revealed, “I am in fact writing the first bit of the prequel volume at the moment, along with parts of [Outlander] Book 10, and parts of a Lord John book [the series based on Outlander character Lord John Grey].”

What Could Outlander: Blood of my Blood Season 2 Cover?

Starz hasn’t confirmed a second season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but the potential is strong. Author Diana Gabaldon revealed she has material for three prequel books about Jamie Fraser’s parents, with Blood of My Blood based on the first, per TV Insider.

If renewed, season two could further explore the romances and historical backdrops of Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser in 18th-century Scotland, as well as Claire’s parents, Henry and Julia, during World War I England. Returning cast members could include Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Jeremy Irvine, and Hermione Corfield, with new characters possibly introduced.

With Gabaldon’s rich source material and expansive scope, the series has immense potential for future seasons.
