CNN has announced that it will officially roll out its new direct-to-consumer subscription-based streaming service CNN+ on March 29, 2022, in the US. The platform will offer original shows, true crime shows, live daily news programming, along with food and travel shows.
CNN Executive Vice President, Chief Digital Officer, and head of CNN+ Andrew Morse said, "March 29 will be an important day in the history of CNN and CNN+ will be a critical part of our future." He added, "I am so proud of the work our teams have done to ensure our world class journalism and storytelling comes to life on this new platform. We can't wait for our subscribers to experience it."
A subscription to CNN+ will cost $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year. However, if you subscribe within the first four weeks after launch, you will have access to a "Deal of a Lifetime" - 50% off the monthly plan for life, as long as the account is active.
In addition to its breaking news coverage, the streaming platform will also offer five daily live news programs, mini-series, and documentaries. Some programs lined up include "Who's Talking to Chris Wallace" with the former Fox News journalist, "The Source With Kasie Hunt" with the former NBC News correspondent, "The Big Picture" with correspondent Sara Sidner, and more. Media personalities signed by the streamer include actress Eva Longoria (who will host a show about Mexican cuisine), former basketball champion Rex Chapman, and former ESPN stars Jemele Hill and Cari Champion. Additionally, CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Don Lemon, Brian Stelter, Anderson Cooper, Christiane Amanpour, Jake Tapper, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta will also make appearances.
The announcement of the launch of CNN+ comes after a turbulent period in the company, which saw the exit of CNN's former high-profile president Jeff Zucker. The company is expected to get a new CEO in May, Chris Licht.
