Release date & Where to Watch

Breathless premieres on Netflix worldwide on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024.

Pro Tip

Breathless will be available worldwide, including in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. However, Netflix is not accessible in China, North Korea, Russia, or Syria, where geo-blocks will prevent you from watching the series. But there's a solution! You can use a fast VPN like NordVPN to bypass these restrictions and stream Breathless from anywhere.

Plot

In a recent chat with Variety, Montero revealed a central plotline involving a major strike in which hospital workers jeopardize a patient's life to save the healthcare system. He explained, “The initial idea for this show came from that paradox, that dilemma, that to save the healthcare system as a whole, you may have to abandon the patients.”

The trailer hints at a significant patient—a prominent figure in Spain—who is admitted to the hospital with a lump, but her health is at risk due to the ongoing strike. In a poignant moment, she asks a medic, "Do you promise my recovery will always be the most important thing?"

Netflix teases that the Joaquín Sorolla Hospital is more than just a public hospital in Valencia; it’s a place where lives are saved daily. Amid the frenetic pace of the emergency room, doctors and residents navigate escalating tensions, emotions, and desires. The arrival of a distinguished patient brings to light the complexities of the public health system, igniting an unprecedented and drastic strike.

This eight-episode series explores the lives of doctors dedicated to their patients while highlighting their struggles within the healthcare system. As they form friendships and romantic relationships, the series delves into what happens when their personal lives intertwine with their professional commitments.
