The Boruto series is currently amid the "Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure Arc," which several fans consider a filler arc since it's not manga canon. The latest episode of Boruto saw the end of the fight between the Konoha ninjas and the pirates on the fortress. Let's look at what happened in episode 237, titled "The Mobile Fortress." The episode saw Boruto, Kawaki, and Buntan discovering a giant scientific ninja tool on the fortress.
The latest episode begins with Sarada informing Kagura that the former had rescued Team Denki and the hostages. Boruto also contacts Kagura and tells him about the Scientific Ninja Tool "cannon," explaining that everyone must escape before it reaches them. He also decides to destroy the cannon before being used against them by the pirates. Kagura's ship soon crashes with the fortress, giving Boruto a chance to act on his plan.
Meanwhile, Kagura uses the opportunity to get into the fortress, defeating the pirates. He soon joins Boruto, who Tenma confronts. Kagura and Kawaki begin fighting Tenma while Boruto and Buntan figure out how to destroy the cannon. As Sarada's group approaches the fort, the cannon manages to fire before they can destroy it; however, Denki steers their ship out of the way.
As Kawaki and Kagura hold Tenma down, Boruto uses a crane to turn the cannon as it fires, destroying itself and the upper levels of the fort. The fortress begins to collapse while Boruto, Kagura, and the others escape, rejoining their friends back on the ship.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations runs a weekly schedule with new series episodes coming out every Sunday. The current arc in the Boruto series is anime canon; however, according to several fans, it doesn't matter if an episode is "anime canon" or "mixed canon." It is widely believed that if the events didn't happen in the manga, they could not be considered canon.
