Receiving an unexpected message in our inbox can seem intriguing and can tempt us to open it. We all know that we should not click on unknown links, and we should remember that now more than ever. A new link that serves as an Apple Messages App Text Bomb has started circling around. It can cause your device to crash and potentially lose data, essentially inflicting a brain-freeze on your app. Beware of it and definitely do not click it.
This flaw in Apple's Messages App was first discovered by one software developer named Abraham Masri. Moreover, he was the first one who shared the link online, which can be used to bring your app to a halt if you click on it.
If you do click on the link it will redirect your app to a page on GitHub, a page that hosts computer code. The bug messes up with your app by executing very long strings of information. These essentially overload your device and cause it to freeze, crash, or even lose some valuable data. When Abraham Masri Shared the link, he mentioned that it should not be used for mischief; however, it was expected that that advice would go unheard.
Well, the most obvious thing that you can do is to not click on it. This should come as a general rule for any suspicious link that you receive. It is a fail-proof way to stay safe on the internet these days and protect your device, as well as your data.
Fortunately, this bug is more a nuisance than a real issue, like the recent Meltdown and Spectre bugs were. There are still no fixes for this issue, however, we can most probably expect a quick-fix with the next app update.
The truth is, you can never stay safe enough on the internet these days. However, there are definitely things that you can do to protect yourself as much as possible.
