Netflix’s Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing pulls back the curtain on the world of young influencers, focusing heavily on social media star Piper Rockelle and her mother-manager, Tiffany Smith. The docuseries includes explosive allegations from former friends, collaborators, and family members, painting a troubling picture of life behind the scenes.
Here are seven of the biggest revelations involving Tiffany Smith, as depicted in the series.
Piper Rockelle and Sophie Fergi formed a close friendship while filming the Brat web series, Mani. But according to Bad Influence, their relationship soured after a reported incident on the set of the show. Fergi claimed she distanced herself following an explosive outburst from Tiffany Smith.
Smith, however, denied the event to PEOPLE, stating that she wasn't present when this would have happened. She also said that Heather Nichole “provided chaperone services to the set,” and added, “If Piper didn’t have lines, I would never force her to stay.” Fergi also alleged that Piper privately told her mother, Heather Nichole, “‘I need a stable parent. I don’t have that,’” and asked her to move in.
Smith denied that and told PEOPLE, “Heather Nichole was my best friend. And Sophie Fergi was like my family. They moved in with us because they were struggling a little… families help each other.”
Content creator Raegan Beast claimed Smith made inappropriate comments about his gender transition and kissed him during a livestream in 2017, when he was 17. Beast said Smith was drinking and told him that he would be “so sexy when you’re a bit older.” He also alleged she kissed him twice—once on camera and again after it turned off.
Smith denied the allegations in a statement to PEOPLE, saying, “Raegan Beast was never even part of Piper’s Squad... he had nothing to do with the show,” and added, “I certainly regret that st*pid, silly kiss,” while also denying she gave alcohol to minors or deleted the video footage of the kiss.
The docuseries features multiple people claiming that Smith interacted with an adult fan who sent expensive gifts to Rockelle starting at age 10. According to Heather Nichole, Smith referred to the fan as a “pervert” but allegedly said, “You can get stuff too if you send him pictures. It's nothing bad, it's just extra pictures from photoshoots.”
Smith denied these claims to PEOPLE, calling them “disgusting.” She added, “I made my position very clear: do not engage with stalkers.” Sophie Fergi and Nichole claimed the fan gave Rockelle Gucci bags, electronics, and more.
Heather Nichole, a former stylist for Rockelle and her friends, alleged that Smith pushed for more provocative outfits. According to Nichole, Smith once said, “Piper is not Sophie. She's sluttier. Get her sluttier clothes… She needs to show more.”
Smith denied the claims and told PEOPLE, “Nichole was the one who spearheaded all of the wardrobe decisions.” She also denied that she encouraged any revealing clothing, stating, “I did not lead any decisions that pushed more provocative outfits for Piper... over anyone else.”
Another ex-member, Corinne Joy, alleged that Smith once pulled out what looked like Rockelle’s underwear and said, “Old men like to smell them,” while driving to the post office. Joy’s mother, Steevy Areeco, said she confronted Smith, who allegedly replied, “Stop being so dramatic.”
A 2022 lawsuit also accused Smith of mailing “several of Piper’s soiled training bras and panties to an unknown individual.” Smith told PEOPLE that the accusations were false and linked to Rockelle’s Poshmark deal, saying, “Yes, that deal involved us driving to the post office to mail out clothes. But obviously not underwear… they’re including the underwear angle cause [it's] better for their reality show.”
Fergi recalled a moment when Child Protective Services was scheduled to visit. She claimed Smith told her and Rockelle to say she was “nothing but nice and nothing but normal,” and asked, “Sophie, do you want your best friend's mom to go to jail?”
Smith denied coaching them and told PEOPLE, “It’s important to understand —We didn’t even know they were coming… There was no heads-up, and we definitely didn’t talk about it beforehand.” She added, “Whoever made that claim probably doesn’t even realize that CPS just showed up unannounced”
Johna Ramirez, mother of Jentzen Ramirez, alleged that Smith created a hostile environment. Ramirez claimed that Smith yelled at her after she confronted the momager about a prank that caused her son to cry. She said that she later filed for divorce from her husband to get legal custody of their son. She also alleged that Smith encouraged Jentzen to seek emancipation from her.
Smith denied this to PEOPLE, stating, “I quite intentionally stayed clear of this.” Johna said the fallout led to Jentzen cutting off communication: “By the end of 2020, Jentzen wouldn't really speak to me. He wouldn't answer his phone calls. He wouldn't answer his texts. At one point, he told me Tiffany was a better mom than me.”
