Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 9: Release Date, Time, English Dub, and Where to Watch
Published on February 28, 2022
Titled "From You, 2000 Years Ago," the latest episode of Attack on Titan was an informative one that finally revealed the story of the founder, Ymir Fritz. If, like us, you thought Ymir was going to be a strong and amazing woman who found the power of the Titans hidden somewhere, you must've been grimly disappointed. Hajime Isayama has once again managed to make us sadder than we already were, considering all that's happening.
In the latest episode, Eren and Zeke return from Grisha's memories, with the latter considering his father's words. Zeke then tells Ymir to enact the "euthanasia plan," but as she begins walking towards the coordinate, Eren rips himself free from the chains and rushes towards her. We are then shown a flashback from 2,000 years ago, where we finally see the story of the founder Ymir and the beginning of the Titan lineage.
It turns out that 2,000 years ago, Ymir lived in a small village invaded by the Eldian Empire. The Eldians were led by a cruel King named Fritz, who enslaved all townspeople, including Ymir. One day, a young Ymir is blamed by her people in front of the King for letting a pig escape. Fritz then orders his men to take one of her eyes and hunt her down until she can run.
However, while running for her life, Ymir enters an ancient tree and falls into a pond where a parasitic-looking entity turns her into the first Titan. However, this does not sway King Fritz, who still treats Ymir as his "slave" and begins to use her powers to destroy Marley's forces. Fritz then decides that Ymir is a valuable "slave" and makes her his concubine, having three daughters: Maria, Rose, and Sina.
When a dissenter tries to kill Fritz by attacking him with a spear, his concubine and the founder Ymir sacrifices herself to save him. After her death, King Fritz orders his daughters to eat their mother's body and pass on the tradition to their descendants to keep passing on the power of the Titans. Back in the Paths, Eren reaches the founder Ymir and tells her that she is not a god or an enslaved person - she is free.
He tells her he'll give her the freedom she desires by putting an end to everything. Having been enslaved for an eternity in the Paths, Ymir chooses her freedom for the first time and begins "The Rumbling." Thousands of Colossal Titans encased within the walls start walking, and Eren uses the Paths to speak to every single one of Ymir's subjects and tell them he will use the Titans to end all life beyond the island.
The upcoming episode will most likely show us the beginning of "The Rumbling," which fans have waited for since Season 4 Part 1. Read on to find out when the next episode airs.
