Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2 English Dub Release Date Announced
Published on February 5, 2022
Attack on Titan's final season is currently underway with only 10 episodes now remaining for Eren Yeager's journey to come to an end. Ever since the series revealed that Reiner Braun is the Armored Titan, fans have been wondering the motivations behind his actions. Of course, the Season 3 finale reveal and the first episodes of Season 4 made it very clear that Reiner was a victim of racism and propaganda since he was a child.
While we can only speculate on what goes on in Reiner's mind, a recent interview with the voice actor Yoshimasa Hosoya, who voices the troubled character, brought some things to light. It seems that Yoshimasa has his own idea of what Reiner is currently feeling and why he's doing what he's doing. Read on to find out what he had to say.
Reiner's trauma and dilemma have been evident for a while now, especially when he simply lost his mind and casually revealed to Eren that he was the Armored Titan. Since then, fans will have noticed that Reiner seems to have two opposing personalities: one where he's a warrior for Marley and the other where he's a soldier of Paradis' Survey Corps.
His conflicting personalities have driven him to the point where all he wants is to die and leave these troubles behind. However, after Eren's attack on Liberio, it seems that Reiner has decided to live and fight for "his country" after all. The latest episodes of Attack on Titan show Reiner and Eren engaged in an epic Titan-on-Titan battle.
Speaking about Eren and Reiner, actor Yoshimasa Hosoya explained that the relationship between the two characters is complicated. He said, "When I was dubbing Reiner, I got the feeling that he was being considerate for Eren this time. It's a little hard to explain, but I think Reiner can sense when Eren is shining." The actor also added, "I feel that Reiner had a special kind of empathy for Eren because if he didn't act as a role model, Eren would probably break down and lose control of himself."
Hosoya also touched upon Reiner's two opposing personalities adding, "I really felt like there was a real Reiner and a fake Reiner at the same time. As for his mind, Reiner lost it." Clearly, Hosoya knows what he's talking about since he's spent so many years voicing the character.
