Apple Brings MagSafe Back for iPhone 12 - Trusty and Safe Wireless Charging
Last updated September 14, 2021
For as long as Apple continues to struggle with the development of their 'AirPower', there’s an increasing number of wireless charger manufacturers that fill the market gap with their own products. As confirmed by the Qi Wireless Power Consortium, the latest player to enter this market is AT&T with their “Power Drum”, a wireless 2-in-1 charger and Apple Watch power bank. The move makes perfect sense since Apple product owners became increasingly impatient in waiting for the AirPower, and Apple has not clarified when their own charger will be finally available to them.
AT&T’s charger features a Qi output of 5W, 7.5W, and 10W, a maximum wireless charging distance of 8 millimeters, and an energy conversion rate that is higher than 72%. The battery that is incorporated into the charger boasts a capacity of 3000 mAh, allowing Apple Watch owners to charge their gadgets on the go. This feature is actually unique in the market of Apple wireless chargers, so the “Power Drum” is entering the field with a bit bulk design but unmatched functionality. AT&T confirms the charger’s compatibility with Apple Watch Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3, and judging by the specifications there’s no reason why not to conclude that the Series 4 will also be supported.
On the “quality of life” side, the Power Drum sports LED charge indicators that notify the users on the state of charge, while the micro-USB input may put some prospective buyers off. While this port is not exactly obsolete or anachronistic yet, USB-C is what consumers want nowadays. The indicated price is set at $99.99, while AT&T has not clarified the date of availability for this new accessory. It is possible that the item will be available very soon, as companies are in a hurry to cash out the delay that has plagued Apple’s AirPower.
