Apple will soon discontinue the practice of publishing sales figures for iPhones, iPads and other devices. There is always a large amount of hype surrounding the company’s performance, and Apple believes that those figures do not correlate in any way to the tech giant’s performance and quality of products.
During Apple’s Q4 2018 call CFO Luca Maestri revealed “Starting with the December quarter, we will no longer be providing unit sales data for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. As we have stated many times, our objective is to make great products and services that enrich people’s lives, and to provide an unparalleled customer experience so that our users are highly satisfied, loyal and engaged.”
Apple’s shipment figures have dipped due to the global economic slowdown, but revenue and stock performance are as solid as ever. The company’s earnings from iPhones have gone up by 29% which is quite impressive. The company launched a number of premium products like the new iPhone XR, the iPhone XS, and iPad Pro this year which can boost revenue even further.
Despite lesser shipments, Apple continues to make money by selling premium products and the number of units sold does not matter as long as the revenue numbers are up, and investors are happy. Just like other years, we will continue receiving financial reports that reveal revenue figures, profit, and other data but the number of units sold for its products will be left out going forward from 2019. Regardless of the tech giant’s decision, speculations will be on the rise, and market analysts will continue analyzing and figuring out the sales figures achieved by Apple.
