Reports of Apple working on a unified service that brings together music, news, and video content came in earlier this year, and it seems like the tech giant is on track for its launch. Apple acquired Texture in a bid to expand its online news service, and its upcoming news subscription is expected to launch sometime next year. The service will be integrated into Apple News and will also be included as part of the unified service package.
The company revealed its intentions of doubling its 2016 services revenue by 2020 and so far, it is on track with Apple Music, Cloud and App Store revenue being higher than ever. However, things are a bit concerning as the number of iPhones sold has been on the decline. With prices of the new iPhone XS, XS Max and XR being quite high shipment numbers have gone down significantly. However, the company has managed to keep its revenue numbers positive, and investors are happy despite in the dip in sales figures.
'News' is not the only avenue the company is focused on with original video content being in Apple’s pipeline for 2019 as well. The new subscription plans will be available very soon, but there is no word on what the pricing structure will be.
Online newspaper services are not too happy about the upcoming service as it is very unlikely that customers will be paying full price for a digital newspaper subscription and also pay for Apple News. With lower margins on the tech giant’s digital distribution platform newspaper executives are expecting to see a dip in revenue once the service goes live.
