While there have been no widespread reports about the iPhone 8 being shipped with faulty logic boards, Apple stated earlier this week that many iPhone 8 devices sold between September 2017 and March 2018 are faulty. Any user who purchased an iPhone 8 during the given time period is eligible for a free replacement.
Users can check if they are eligible under the Logic Board Replacement program and submit a request for a new phone via an Apple Authorized Service Provider or access mail-in support. Devices with any signs of physical damage will not be eligible for the program and users will need to fix any damaged devices at their own cost first before submitting an iPhone 8 for replacement.
Apple stated that the replacement program would be valid for three years from the date of purchase and receiving a new device will not offer extended warranty. The affected devices were sold in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, and the U.S. The exchange offer is valid for all storage variants of the iPhone 8 only and not the iPhone 8 Plus.
It is not the first time Apple has been hit with hardware failure. MacBook Pro keywords have been surrounded with controversy due to the design of the new Butterfly keyboards and Apple is currently replacing faulty keyboards for affected users. Apple is set to launch its new lineup of devices this month with two variants of a new iPhone X and a cheaper iPhone priced close to the $649 mark to cater to the mid-range market. The tech giant will also release a slew of iPads, MacBooks and a new Apple Watch. iOS 12 is also scheduled for release later this month for all devices running iOS 11.
