A recent interview by Axios that was conducted at Apple Park saw Apple CEO Tim Cook speak on a lot of important topics about privacy and the future of the company. Privacy is one of the most important topics right now for internet users with security incidents being more commonplace than ever and the CEO spoke out about the company’s continued focus on privacy.

Apple believes in its core values according to Cook, and if something does not fit into the company’s principles, it doesn’t belong there. Profit, privacy and technical innovation are all important. The company wants to make use of user data to offer innovation, but it is not willing to put the consumer at risk. The company’s data privacy policy is quite strict, and it goes as preventing law enforcement from getting forced access to user data.

One of the most common questions the tech giant faces is its partnership with Google. The company continues to receive billions of dollars for keeping Google as iOS’ default search engine. Cook admitted that Google offers the best search engine out there, but Apple has taken a number of precautions to ensure user data is not compromised. There are additional security and privacy measures that are taken to let users continue using Google as the default search engine while also maintaining the privacy standards set for iOS.

Government regulation of user privacy was also discussed, and Cook revealed that he is not a fan of any kind of government regulation. He envisions a free market, but government regulation is inevitable according to him as free markets have not worked in the US. He expects the government to step in at some point in the future. Cook has called for government regulation following the Cambridge Analytica scandal as long as it is “well crafted’.

The Apple CEO also discussed topics like his personal routine and Apple’s efforts towards changing the male-dominated industry. The company prides itself in its culture and is open to accepting people from all cultures and beliefs. The pre-interview has not been published online by HBO yet after it was streamed on TV recently and will be available soon.
