Apple is building its own GPU for the next iPhone and iPad handset

Apple has the ability to create their own mobile processor. So, they have decided to build their own graphics chip for the next handsets.

Imagination technologies are the company that provides the graphics for the iPhone. Apple will now replace the PowerVR GPU at the heart of its iOS devices with a graphics chips of its own design.

On Monday, the imagination technologies said that it had supplied under a licensing agreement. The technology and the intellectual property is the basis of GPUs in Apple’s iPhones, iPads, iPods, watches, and TVs. The company said that it had been informed by Apple that it will no longer use Imagination's intellectual property in new products in 15 months to two years time.
