Apple just announced a new event scheduled for September 15th, along with the tagline “Time Flies”. According to rumors, this may refer to a new line of Apple Watches and not the new iPhone, which is actually going to be revealed sometime next month.
Although the event is going to take place in Cupertino as usual, the whole thing will be streamed online through Apple’s website, and not in front of a live audience. This is obviously due to Covid-19, and it’s going to be the second virtual event hosted by the company this year, after the developer's conference in June.
There is no other official information right now in terms of what the Silicon Valley giant is going to present, which is a bit unusual for Apple. There is usually some sort of hint when it comes to these events, but this time there are no additional clues except for the cryptic “Time Flies” tagline.
According to Bloomberg, the new iPhones are not coming this month, and neither are the new, redesigned iPads. Apple will hold off on them until October, which is also when they are planning to reveal the first Mac running on their in-house CPU based on the ARM architecture.
On the other hand, we can expect iOS 14 to land sometime this month. Apple Watch, TV, and Mac software updates are also planned for this fall, but we don’t have an exact date yet. Naturally, we may learn more about this on September 15th during the upcoming event.
As far as the iPhone 12 is concerned, it seems like 5G is going to play a huge part in the announcement, although this move may significantly increase the phone’s starting price. Apple is also rumored to be working on better cameras and an updated case design, which is what we’ve come to expect from any new iPhone anyway.
The new iPads will also come with a redesigned look, supposedly featuring an edge-to-edge screen, which would be a first for Apple tablets.
