Anime Film POMPO THE CINEPHILE Gets U.S. Release Date!

One of 2021's hottest shoujo anime films, POMPO THE CINEPHILE, is reportedly making its way to the U.S! The film is an adaptation of the Kadokawa-published manga by Shogo Sugitani, which began serialization on pixiv in 2017. As of 2021, six tankoubon volumes published under the MFC Gene Pixiv Series label have been released.
POMPO THE CINEPHILE first premiered in Japan on June 4, 2021. In December 2021, the film was nominated for an Annie Award for Best Indie Feature in the 49th annual Annie Awards, presented by ASIFA-Hollywood, the Los Angeles branch of the International Animated Film Association. The film was written and directed by Takayuki Hirao.
Shingo Adachi, who has worked on projects like Sword Art Online, served as the character designer for the film, while Kanji Miyake served as the director's assistant. Furthermore, the film saw Takafumi Nishima and Miu Miyamoto as art directors, Kou Hoshina and Masashi Uoyama as photography directors and Kenta Matsukuma as the music composer. The anime film also saw Studio CLAP as its animation production house.

Anime fans, it's time to rejoice! The anime film, POMPO THE CINEPHILE, is slated to premiere in the United States on April 27, 2022. According to the latest updates, the upcoming movie will have special fan preview screenings on April 27 and 28 before having regular screenings in select theaters starting from April 29. Moreover, the fan preview screenings will include an "exclusive introduction" from Takayuki Hirao!

Although she's known for B-movies, one day Pompo tells her movie-loving but apprehensive assistant Gene that he will direct her next script: a delicate drama about a tormented artistic genius, starring the legendary and Brando-esque actor Martin Braddock, and a young actress seeking her first break. But when the production heads towards chaos, can Gene rise to Pompo's challenge and succeed as a first-time director?"
