The release date was announced at the D23 fan expo in Brazil where early footage from the show was also shown. But that clip hasn’t been released to the general audience. The release date shows that the second season of the show is much closer than expected.
Season one followed Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor as he changed his ways from a small-time thief and criminal to a hero who joined the fight against the Galactic Empire. Plot
Andor season 1 ended with a major civilian uprising on Ferrix against the Empire after Maarva Andor’s death. With the fire of rebellion already lit and on the verge of undoing everything the Empire had accomplished, it’s expected that things will get even more dark. Cassian Andor and Mon Mothma, the senator from Chandrila, who has been funding Rebel operations, will soon cross paths since the former is now on board with Luthen Rael’s plans. Series creator Tony Gilroy is hoping to give fans what they are here for. He expressed that since the team knew when the series was going to join up with Rogue One, so it allowed them to understand how they needed to deliver emotionally.

Episodes
Andor season two will have 12 episodes which will take place over four years. The season will be split into three-episode groups with each such group covering consecutive days every year before we finally reach Rogue One. This is in sharp contrast to season one, which covered roughly a year of Cassian Andor’s life.
How many Seasons will Andor get?
Andor season two was greenlit even before season one premiered. The show is supposed to lead up to Rogue One so Disney ensured that the makers would be able to plan out the story without being dependent on viewership numbers. Andor season one was loved by critics for its complex writing and was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards. It's expected that season two will deliver on the same level.
Why is Andor Season 2 taking so long?
Andor season two began filming on Nov. 21, 2022, in London. Filming for the show happened amid the WGA strike as the scripts were supposedly already penned. It was originally expected to wrap production by August 2023 and release in the second half of 2024. But the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023 halted production, which was restarted in early 2024. This is why season two is now releasing on 2025.
Is Vader Alive During Andor?
Yes, Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader when Andor takes place, which is 5 BBY, about five years before Rogue One. In the Star Wars timeline, Vader was busy during this time trying to track down former Jedi with the help of his Inquisitors. Star Wars: Rebels does a good job of showing this. Also, Rebels takes place in the same year Andor does.
Behind the Scenes
Tony Gilroy is returning as the executive producer, showrunner, and writer of Andor season two. Joining him is a team of writers comprised of Beau Willimon, Stephen Schiff, and Tom Bissell, among others. The season will be directed by Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios.
Sanne Wohlenberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, and Diego Luna will executive produce the series. The music for the show is composed by Nicholas Britell. The series is produced by Kate Hazell and David Meanti.
