After its most successful holiday season ever, Amazon released a blog detailing some fun facts and stats about the e-commerce platform’s performance during the past few weeks. More products were ordered on the shopping portal than ever before globally, and the overwhelming number of users buying Alexa devices caused the voice assistant to suffer extended downtime on Christmas day.

Alexa has become one of Amazon’s most important offerings, and the company revealed that its users listened to hundreds of millions of hours of music during the holiday season. Some of the most common uses of the voice assistant during the last few weeks included searching for Christmas recipes and turning on Christmas lights. Alexa delivered eight times as many reminders this holiday season compared to 2017, and over a hundred million timers were set by the digital assistant.

Home security devices commanded a large percentage of products ordered on Amazon with a record number of devices like the Ring Video Doorbell 2, iRobot Roomba and the Amazon Smart Plug being sold. Some of the other popular tech devices sold during the holiday season include Samsung Flat 65″ 4K UHD 8 Series Smart LED TVs, QuietComfort 35 II headphones by Bose and the Wi-Fi only iPad 32 GB (2018 version).

Amazon Prime saw a lot of new users joining the service as well all over the world to receive exclusive orders and free shipping during the holiday season. Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer, revealed “This season was our best yet, and we look forward to continuing to bring our customers what they want, in ways most convenient for them in 2019. We are thrilled that in the U.S. alone, more than one billion items shipped for free this holiday with Prime.”
