Amazon’s FreeTime Unlimited is an app designed for parents to select books, apps, videos and games for their kids. It acts as a restricted platform to prevent kids from accessing content that is not permissible. The app has been available for Amazon’s Fire OS Android devices for years, and it is finally making it into iOS.

The content selection of the app includes channels like PBS Kids, Disney, and Nickelodeon. Unlike the Amazon Fire tablets, the iOS version of the app does not restrict kids from exiting the app. With Apple not allowing third-party access to apps the way Amazon does on its devices, it may not be as secure for kids as the Kindle Fire tablets and Fire TVs.

To make content curation easier, parents can simply select the age of their children in the app and choose the kind of content they want their kids to view. The app also has YouTube integration with videos that are approved and curated by Amazon being available for access. Parents can also use an analytics feature that displays how much time kids are spending on the app and what kind of content they are viewing.

Unlike the Android version of the app which can display data from other apps too, the iOS version displays usage data of only the FreeTime app. Parents can also set up the designated wake and sleep times to prevent kids from using the app during their sleep or study hours which is a nifty feature.

If you want to subscribe to the service past the 30-day free trial, you need to pay $2.99 per month if you are an Amazon Prime subscriber. If you are a non-Prime user, FreeTime Unlimited requires a $9.99 subscription fee. The service is available in the US, UK, and Germany only at the moment.
