Ash (2025) Movie Music

Flying Lotus has released a new track, Oxygene, from the Ash soundtrack, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.

Working on the score was both inspiring and challenging,” Flying Lotus shared. “I spent most of the time writing it during the final postproduction and color grading when I was in New Zealand, running back and forth to different rooms to check on progress and going into my lil cave there and working with just my laptop and controller. I drew inspiration from composers who primarily just used synths to create soundtracks, like John Carpenter, Akira Yamaoka, Angelo Badalamenti, and Vangelis. It was a great time trying to find a distinctive sound for the movie that also felt fresh and unique for me to explore.” (via Rolling Stone)

Behind the Scenes

Flying Lotus’ Ash is an upcoming American sci-fi horror-thriller film written by Jonni Remmler and produced by XYZ Films and GFC Films. Executive producers include Neill Blomkamp, Flying Lotus, and Echo Lake Entertainment. Produced by Nate Bolotin and Matthew Metcalfe, Ash comes from RLJE Films and AMC’s Shudder.

The film, which began production in New Zealand in May 2023, was acquired by Amazon Prime Video for international distribution in early 2024 for around $10 million.

Eiza González praised her co-star Aaron Paul in Ash, telling Entertainment Weekly, “We have a lot of scenes together, and our dynamic is super intense and crucial in the film. Working with him was so special.” She also spoke highly of director Flying Lotus, saying, “His visual imagery and the way that he spoke to us about the movie really translated to the making of the film.”

Flying Lotus not only directs but also composes the film’s original score, crafting an eerie soundscape to match its chilling atmosphere. He described the project as “fresh and unique,” adding, “Having Eiza and Aaron in this world just makes it flames. They are absolute magic makers, brave, and equally inspiring.” (via Bloody Disgusting)

His previous work includes Kuso and a segment in V/H/S/99. Reflecting on the difference between Ash and his past projects, he told Hypebeast, “With Kuso, I did so much of that at my house… whereas Ash was a real production. People go to New Zealand to shoot sci-fi and fantasy movies, so I was among all these people who worked on The Lord of the Rings and other Peter Jackson and James Cameron stuff.
