While Netflix hasn't announced an official release date for The Night Agent season three, fans can expect it sooner than the two-year gap between the first two seasons. As reported by Deadline in October 2024, “Fans won’t have to wait that long for Season 3 — like streamers typically do with their strongest performers, Netflix clearly had commissioned a writers room to work on the new installment.”
Although the exact release date remains unclear, with filming already underway and the previous seasons debuting in January, it's likely that the third season will be released by January 2026 at the latest.
Season three of The Night Agent will follow Peter Sutherland as he embarks on a dangerous new mission as a double agent. At the end of season two, Peter is tasked with investigating the relationship between billionaire Jacob Monroe and Presidential candidate Governor Hagan, whose secret dealings were exposed by Peter's earlier actions.
After helping Monroe retrieve crucial information from the U.N., which led to the withdrawal of Patrick Knox from the presidential race, Peter faces the moral dilemma of becoming a mole for Catherine. She instructs Peter, “Gain his trust. Uncover every snake on his payroll and then expose. Destroy.”
This new role as a double agent places Peter in a high-stakes, political game filled with dangerous espionage. In an interview with GamesRadar, Basso teased that season three’s opening would be "insane," mentioning stunts that “Netflix signed off on.” He further shared, "If I’m ranking the three seasons in their openings, this is our strongest opening of all seasons," setting high expectations for what's to come.
As Peter digs deeper into Monroe and Hagan's connections, his actions will have far-reaching consequences for national security, raising the stakes for both him and the country. Creator Shawn Ryan hints that Peter’s mortality will be tested as the story unfolds. “It would be doing the audience a disservice if every season, he was fine,” Ryan told Variety, indicating that Peter's journey is far from safe.
Season three will delve into Peter’s complex relationship with the political figures around him, including Monroe and Hagan, as he tries to expose their hidden agendas. The election’s tension will also play a larger role, with Peter navigating through a web of lies, betrayal, and intrigue. Fans can expect even more action-packed moments, with Peter's double life putting him in increasingly perilous situations.
It's still early as filming has just begun, so a trailer isn't available yet. However, we'll update this when it's released.
In the season two finale of The Night Agent, Peter, Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), and Catherine successfully thwart the KX attack on the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
Afterwards, Peter confesses to Rose about the deal he made with billionaire Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum) to track her down, asking her not to search for him again as long as he remains a Night Agent. Rose agrees, and Peter surrenders to Catherine, who demands an explanation for his disappearance.
Gabriel Basso always believed The Night Agent had multi-season potential. Reflecting on his final scene in season one, where Peter accepts his role as a Night Agent, Basso explained to Tudum, “I remember thinking, ‘I don’t want to smile because this is scary’ … Peter is now a cog in the machine officially. [He doesn’t] get to say, ‘This isn’t for me.’” He added, “That whole thing sort of makes me nervous. But it also [creates] a lot of storytelling opportunities for potential seasons down the line.”
When the show was renewed for season three, Basso expressed his excitement on Instagram, saying, "I’m blown away by the level of interest that everyone has shown in the show,” sharing that fans worldwide are invested in Peter’s journey.
The Night Agent season three has officially begun production in Istanbul as of January 2025, with filming slated to continue in New York later this year. Although production specifics remain under wraps, Gabriel Basso, speaking to ExtraTV in January, confirmed that filming on the first episode wrapped up in Istanbul, adding, "we’re off to a crazy start."
In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Basso shared his desire to film in locations beyond the usual big cities like New York and Bangkok. He suggested, “I think Nepal would be pretty cool, like filming in the mountains in Nepal. I’ve not seen it on screen a lot, but that's probably for a reason because — probably a logistical nightmare to film there.”
He also mentioned that a Midwest town, such as St. Louis, would be an interesting setting for Peter's adventures: “I think it'd be cool to see, like, St. Louis or some city that people wouldn't think that this kind of stuff happens there and then it does.”
Ryan continues as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of The Night Agent, collaborating with MiddKid Productions. Other executive producers include Marney Hochman (MiddKid Productions), Seth Gordon, Julia Gunn (Exhibit A), and James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and Nicole Tossou (Project X). Additional EPs include Munis Rashid, Paul Bernard, Guy Ferland, and Seth Fisher.
Speaking to Tudum on Jan. 23, 2025, Ryan shared, “We’re so excited that our fans will get to watch season two of The Night Agent in early 2025, and we’ve been hard at work writing season three to deliver more breathless Peter Sutherland Night Action adventures to our rabid audience.”
