The series will premiere in Japan on TOKYO MX and other networks starting Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. It will be available for global streaming on Prime Video the following day.

What is the plot of Ubel Blatt?

Übel Blatt is a dark fantasy anime centered around Köinzell, a skilled young swordsman with a black sword, on a quest for revenge against seven so-called “heroes” who betrayed him and his comrades. 

Once an elite warrior, Köinzell was left for dead by the traitors after a mission to defeat a powerful threat known as the Wischtech. Now, under the new name of Köinzell, he seeks justice while uncovering shocking truths that threaten the kingdom.

Set in a bleak, medieval landscape filled with magic, monsters, and intrigue, Übel Blatt shares thematic and tonal similarities with shows like Attack on Titan, featuring a morally complex anti-hero who uses ruthless methods to pursue his goals. 

As Köinzell embarks on his dangerous journey, he faces formidable foes, including the Traitorous Lances—four warriors thought to be defeated by the legendary Seven Heroes. With each step, Köinzell’s path grows darker, pushing him further into a conflict that could change everything.

Behind the Scenes

The Übel Blatt anime is directed by Takashi Naoya at animation studios SATELIGHT and Staple Entertainment. Tatsuya Takahashi handles the series composition and scripting, collaborating with Tetsuya Yamada. Kiyoshi Tateishi designs the characters, while Shun Narita composes the music. SATELIGHT, known for Log Horizon and Fairy Tail, produces the anime.

Based on the manga written and illustrated by Etorouji Shiono, Übel Blatt was originally serialized in Young Gangan from 2004 to 2009, before continuing in Monthly Big Gangan until March 2019. The manga is compiled into 24 tankōbon volumes by Square Enix.
