Is Silo season 3 happening? - this is what fans of the sci-fi show want to know. Based on Hugh Howey’s trilogy of dystopian novels; Silo follows Juliette, a curious engineer, who stumbles on to a mystery about humanity and wants to uncover why the last few people on Earth are being forced to live inside large cylindrical containers.

Season 1 sets up the mystery of the silo as we follow Juliette in her quest to know more about the place she has lived in her entire life. In the finale, she goes outside in a special suit only to find that the image of the outside world that was always shown to them was false. Not only that, she finds that there are more silos.

Season 2 goes more in-depth and the finale reveals something shocking about the silos themselves. But what comes next? We will discuss everything we know about season 3, including the release date, plot, which books will be adapted, and more. Stay tuned as we will update this article with new information when available.

Release date and Where to Watch

Silo has already been renewed for Seasons 3 and 4, with the latter being its final season. Season 3 has begun filming and Season 4 is completely written. Both seasons will be shot back-to-back throughout 2025. There will only be a short break for pre-production of the final season.

Apple TV hasn’t announced a release date for season 3 yet, but it will probably not be on screen before 2026 or at the latest, before the end of 2025. Silo seasons one and two are streaming on Apple TV+.

What will Happen in Silo Season 3?

Hugh Howey’s books in the trilogy are called Wool, Shift, and Dust. Seasons 1 and 2 have covered the first book, Wool; and seasons 3 and 4 will cover Shift and Dust. Now, Shift is a prequel story and is set about 300 years before the events that take place in Wool.

This is why Juliette takes a backseat till the very end of the book. However, the finale of season 2 shows that the adaptation has tweaked the ending to make sure that she doesn’t get benched for what could be the entirety of season 3.

This was confirmed by Graham Yost in an interview with TVLine, where he said, “I would say that we have Rebecca Ferguson playing Juliette, and she is not just going to be in the last scene of the season. Juliette would be a big part [of Season 3].”

In an interview with The Wrap, Yost also explained the ending of season 2. He said, “So we knew that in the book, there's a lot of stuff about what happened 140 years ago and then there's the origin story. We've monkeyed with the origin story dramatically, renaming him from Donald to Daniel… And we wanted to make more out of their relationship than was really in the book, so we've also gender-swapped Thurman.”

As for season 3, he said, “So there's that, but then we came up with a different story for Juliette for that period that we'll get into when Season 3 comes out. But I would just say a lot of Season 3 is about memory.”

Silo Season 3 Episodes

The number of episodes that will be in Silo season 3 haven’t been revealed yet. However, it will probably have 10 episodes just like seasons 1 and 2.

Will There be a Season 5 of Silo?

In an interview with Collider, Rebecca Ferguson, who is also an executive producer along with being a star of the show said, “The books are the books. It's three books, and the three books are divided into four seasons.”

Creator Graham Yost also said in an interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar) that, “The books are a trilogy. This is not Outlander. This is not a long science fiction series. It's a trilogy. We're not going to extend it beyond that.”

So unless and until plans change, nothing will be added beyond what is written in the books. As such, season 4 will be the end of the Silo series

Behind the Scenes and Production Details

Silo is written by Jessica Blaire, Jeffery Wang, Graham Yost, Remi Aubuchon, Lekethia Dalcoe, and others. Executive producers include Remi Aubuchon, Rebecca Ferguson, Fred Golan, Hugh Howey, Nina Jack, and others. Aric Avelino, Jessica Blaire, Cassie Pappas, and others are the co-executive producers.

Atli Örvarsson gives the music. Gavin Bocquet and Nicole Northridge are the production designers. AMC Studios produces the show. Double Negative (DNEG), FuseFX, and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) among others are involved in the special effects.

Showrunner Graham Yost also talked about how incredibly complicated it is to produce Silo. He said, “It's an incredibly complicated show to produce. There's only so much stage space, so sets have to be built, shot in, taken down, something else built in that place. And then, "Oh, you want to do that IT bullpen again? We have to rebuild that." And that takes three weeks.”

He further explained that they are filming 10 episodes “at some point every week, and so that means all the directors have to be there the whole time, a lot of the cast, and then it's cast availability.”
