What Patrick Gibson has said About Dexter: Original Sin Season 2?

Patrick Gibson, who plays young Dexter, told Yahoo UK that he would "love" to return for a second season, saying he had "such a great time doing this."

"Everybody involved is so incredible," he said. "To have Clyde, the original showrunner, involved and still doing it, and the cast was also great that I would feel so, so lucky to come back again,” he added.

Gibson described the first season as a "pilot series," setting up Dexter’s early journey. He added, "I'm curious to see him start to become a little bit more confident with his methods [and] take bigger swings, but that also might come with harder lessons."

He also hinted at higher stakes and the possibility of seeing familiar characters from the original show: "I think the stakes just get higher and higher with this show, naturally, and so that's been really interesting to see. And also, some characters that we haven't got to meet yet from the original would be cool."

Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Ending Explained

Dexter: Original Sin delivered a shocking twist by revealing Captain Aaron Spencer as the main villain, proving Dexter wasn’t Miami Metro’s first or only killer. In episode ten, Code Blues, Dexter tracks Spencer to an abandoned ship, where he finds his kidnapped son, Nicky. 

Spencer floods the chamber holding Nicky to escape, forcing Dexter to choose between saving the boy or pursuing the captain. He chooses to rescue Nicky, then hunts Spencer down at his ex-wife’s house, where he’s attempting to kill her. Spencer reveals Nicky is the child of her current husband before Dexter subdues him and takes him out to sea, ultimately killing him.

Before dying, Spencer hints that Dexter’s origins may be more complex, possibly tied to Harry’s past. Meanwhile, Harry investigates the murder of Barb, the social worker who took Brian Moser from the Morgan family. He confronts Brian, who blames him for his suffering but escapes rather than surrender. After a chaotic night, Bobby Watt wakes from his coma, allowing Harry to finally rest.

Dexter later confesses to Harry that he killed Spencer and saved Nicky, proving the code is working. Deb reveals she turned down an FSU scholarship to pursue a career in law enforcement, inspired by strong female officers. As the Morgans share a family moment, Brian watches from a distance, still fixated on Dexter.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Phillips hinted at Dexter’s continued journey, saying, “We’re going to keep going forward,” before teasing familiar elements: “Eventually he’s going to be wearing his Henley. Eventually, he’s going to get that apartment. Eventually, he’s going to be doing the red strings at crime scenes.
