Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz are back in business with Back in Action. Diaz is returning to the silver screen in a leading role after almost a decade. She is coming back with Foxx, who worked with her on Any Given Sunday, and Annie. This is the third time these two co-stars have shared the screen together.
The release date for the film has now been set, and a trailer has been released. It's a rollercoaster ride waiting to happen. What is the plot of Back in Action?
In Back in Action, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz are two average parents who live an ordinary life- they have normal jobs and spend their time taking care of their children. However, their normal life is turned upside down when their past as CIA agents catch up to them.
In an interview with Netflix, Diaz said, “We’re on a mission, and we take this opportunity where people might think we’re dead, to disappear off the face of the planet and start a new life and raise our family.” They get dragged into the world of espionage again when their cover gets blown. Now, it’s a race against time to save their family before its too late.

What Happened on the set of Back in Action?
As per a DailyMail article, the filming of Back in Action was plagued with chaos. There were on-set medical emergencies, firings, an alleged scam to take £33,000 from Jamie Foxx, and multiple on-set meltdowns! That’s not all. A WW2 bomb was even discovered while filming!
To make matters worse, Jamie Foxx had to be hospitalized while filming was still ongoing in Georgia. Due to this, the release date for the movie, which was originally scheduled for November 2024, was delayed to Jan. 17, 2025.
Filming
Filming for Back in Action began in December 2022 in London. Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz were spotted filming various scenes including one on a speedboat. Production was then moved to Atlanta in April 2023. The same month, Foxx was hospitalized. However, production continued with body doubles. Filming wrapped during that month as well, but Diaz and Foxx returned to film more scenes in January 2024.
What had Happened to Jamie Foxx?
In a Netflix special titled, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was, the actor revealed what had happened to him on the sets of Back in Action. He said, “It is a mystery. We still don’t know exactly what happened to me.”
Foxx said that on April 11, he was suffering from a headache and became unconscious before he could ask for aspirin. His sister took him to a hospital and there a doctor informed them that Foxx was suffering from a brain bleed that had led to a stroke.
They were told that if the actor wasn’t operated on, he could lose his life. After the operation, he woke up on May 4, 2024, in a wheelchair and unable to walk. His family kept him out of the public eye because he couldn’t walk around properly. Afterward, he went to rehab in Chicago where he continued his treatment.
In July 2023, Foxx gave an update on his Instagram where he said, “I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that, man. I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was gonna make it through.”
In another update in August 2023, Foxx said, “You’re looking at a man who is thankful… finally startin’ to feel like myself…It’s been an unexpected dark journey… but I can see the light.”

Producers also include Peter Chernin, Sharla Sumpter Bridgett, Jenno Topping, and Beau Bauman. The cinematography is by Ken Seng, and the music is given by Christopher Lennertz.
