Jason Statham’s latest action-packed thriller, A Working Man, delivers exactly what fans expect—high-octane fights, a relentless hero, and a tightly woven revenge tale. Directed by David Ayer and based on Chuck Dixon’s novel Levon’s Trade, the film follows Levon Cade, a former elite paramilitary soldier turned construction worker, who is forced back into action when his boss’s daughter is kidnapped.

With a gripping climax and an open-ended resolution, A Working Man sets the stage for a potential sequel. Here’s a breakdown of the ending and what it means for the future of the franchise.

How does A Working Man end?

In true Statham fashion, Levon embarks on a brutal mission to rescue Jenny Garcia (Arianna Rivas), his boss’s daughter, from human traffickers. As he carves through the Chicago underworld, he dismantles an entire faction of the Russian Mafia, known as the Brotherhood.

The kidnapping itself was orchestrated by a rogue member, Dimi, who, along with his associates Viper and Artemis, abducts girls from clubs and sells them to wealthy buyers. Jenny was selected at random by a client named Mr. Broward, but she fights back, disfiguring him in their first encounter.

The film’s climax sees Levon storming a trap house where Jenny is held. After a relentless assault involving gunfire, grenades, and hand-to-hand combat, Levon eliminates the traffickers, including Broward, and rescues Jenny. As they escape, a senior Brotherhood member orders his men to let Levon go, deciding that there’s no profit in revenge against someone as lethal as him.

Why does The Brotherhood let Levon live?

Despite the carnage Jason Statham's Levon leaves behind, the Brotherhood leadership ultimately decides not to pursue him. While he decimates their local operations, the higher-ups see no value in an all-out war against someone as dangerous as Cade. As one leader puts it over the phone, “The devil has what he wants, let him go.”

Their focus is on profit, and pursuing vengeance against such a dangerous adversary could cause more damage than it's worth. With no financial gain in hunting him down, they opt to let him go.

Why Does Yuri Still Want Revenge?

However, not everyone is willing to move on. Yuri, a high-ranking mob boss, has a personal vendetta against Levon, as many of the men he killed—including an underboss and two henchmen—were Yuri’s family members. While the Brotherhood lets Levon walk away, Yuri is determined to hunt him down and avenge his brother and sons. This sets up a likely sequel, where Yuri could be the primary antagonist.

Why was Jenny Garcia Kidnapped?

Jenny’s abduction wasn’t a targeted attack but the result of a twisted human trafficking ring led by Dimi, a rogue mobster. His associates, Viper and Artemis, lured unsuspecting girls into clubs, photographing them for wealthy clients who selected their victims. Jenny was chosen by Mr. Broward, a deranged buyer obsessed with a painting that resembled her.

Her kidnapping had nothing to do with her father’s business—just a sick whim of a rich buyer. Fortunately, Jenny fought back and injured Broward, and before he could harm her again, Jason Statham's Levon executed him.

Sequel Potential: What Comes Next for Jason Statham's Levon Cade?

The A Working Man finale leaves the door open for a sequel. Chuck Dixon’s Levon Cade book series consists of 12 novels, meaning there’s plenty of material to adapt. While the Brotherhood may have backed off, Yuri’s personal vendetta remains unresolved.

Given the success of previous Statham-Ayer collaborations like The Beekeeper, a sequel focusing on Yuri’s revenge—or even a prequel exploring Levon’s past—seems highly possible.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Ayer emphasized that A Working Man isn’t just about action—it’s about emotional stakes. “To give him an emotional motivation, to give him this adopted family that's taken care of him that he can then return the favor and take care of, I mean, that's the movie for me,” Ayer said.

He also teased that Levon might have “unfinished business,” and even expressed interest in expanding David Harbour’s character, Gunny, in a potential follow-up.

The Meaning Behind A Working Man

Unlike many action films that carry deeper metaphorical messages, A Working Man keeps it straightforward—loyalty and family. Levon’s bond with the Garcias and Gunny is central to his character, reinforcing the theme that family isn’t just about blood but also about those who stand by you. This same sense of loyalty, however, fuels Yuri’s revenge, making it clear that Levon’s fight isn’t over yet.

With an open-ended conclusion and strong source material, A Working Man could easily spawn a franchise, continuing Statham’s streak of action hits—if the box office responds in kind. Whether a sequel officially gets greenlit remains to be seen, but with Levon Cade still standing, there’s plenty more story left to tell.

A Working Man is now playing in theaters.
