What is the plot of A Remarkable Place to Die?

A Remarkable Place to Die follows sharp-witted homicide detective Anaís Mallory as she returns to her hometown of Queenstown, New Zealand. Leaving behind a successful policing career in Sydney, she takes on the role of lead detective—driven not only by justice but also by a personal mission to uncover the truth behind the mysterious deaths of her father and sister.

Back home, Anaís must navigate strained family ties, particularly with her grief-stricken mother, Veronica, who may be hiding more than she lets on. Complicating matters further, her ex-fiancé Luke is now married to her former best friend, Maja, forcing Anaís to confront unresolved emotions while tackling new cases.

As bodies begin to pile up in the picturesque yet secret-laden town, she starts to suspect that her past and present cases may be more connected than she ever imagined.

With a new case to solve in each episode, Anaís and her team—including local detective Delaney—are thrown into a web of deception, hidden truths, and unexpected dangers. The show is a co-production between Screentime New Zealand and Real Film for ZDF, Acorn TV, and TVNZ, with support from the NZ Film Commission and NZ On Air. Banijay Rights handles international sales and distribution.

The executive producers include Philly de Lacey, Henning Kamm, and Sibylle Stellbrink, along with Don Klees for Acorn TV, Emma John for TVNZ, and Andy Ryan, Laura Mae Harding, and Maik Platzen for ZDF.
