Mobile phones go head to head with the average laptops these days thanks to the powerful hardware they are capable of packing. If you need a ludicrous amount of storage on your tablet or smartphone, Micron has you covered with its brand-new 1TB MicroSD card.

Micron’s 1TB card seeks to cater to power users who use their mobile devices extensively. Showcased at the MWC 2019, the product comes with a 96-layer 3D quad-level cell (QLC) and NAND technology to pack the massive storage space into a tiny form factor.

The company revealed that the MicroSD card can run high-performance mobile apps without a hitch. The card has been certified with the A2 App Performance Class specification. It will outperform most other cards at running apps and games. The read speeds on the card can go up to 100 MB/s and write speeds cap out at 95MB/s.

Even though Micron’s offering is the first 1TB MicroSD card in the world, it didn’t take long for competitors like SanDisk and Western Digital to introduce their own 1TB cards at the same event. SanDisk has also claimed that its Extreme UHS-I microSDXC is the world’s first 1TB SD card. While both companies can debate that for themselves, the new cards from the manufacturers offer desktop-grade storage capacity in a highly portable form factor.

SanDisk has priced its 1TB MicroSD at $449.99, and we can expect pricing from other brands to be similar. While the memory cards are being marketed to mobile users, they can be of great benefit to photographers and portable console owners who need fast read/write speeds and as much storage as possible.
