Microsoft is set to release HoloLens apps for Android devices. An iOS app is already available that allows users to preview products. The HoloLens mobile apps are not aimed at consumers, and Microsoft will not be shifting focus away from its virtual reality headsets anytime soon. The company is already working on the HoloLens 2 which is expected to be announced later this year.

Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 Remote Assist tool will soon be available on Android devices. It is an app that allows users to share what they are seeing when using a HoloLens device. The app is meant to be used for troubleshooting purposes only.

Remote Assist on Android is also expected to make its way to Android devices. It will offer the same communication experience as its HoloLens counterpart. According to Microsoft’s mixed reality business head Lorraine Bardeen “It’s different than just turning the camera around or turning the phone around because the person on the other side, they’re seeing the problem and they can annotate into the real world.”

Bardeen revealed that Microsoft is focused on offering sensible solutions right now. With phones being the most convenient tools available at almost everyone’s disposal, integrating AR toolkits and apps from the HoloLens can make things very convenient for users. Others HoloLens apps may make it to mobile platforms in the near future as well.

The second-generation HoloLens is expected to be announced very soon at the MWC 2019. It is expected to come with a streamlined design, more powerful hardware and will target professional users instead of focusing on entertainment features. However, there are some entertainment apps available for users, but the focus remains on business and research.
